A Perfect (mini/minute) Holiday!

Rain, Rain go away!

As the western part of Korea was surviving a monsoon, the east, just had rain. It's been raining for days! This weekend was supposed to be a nice weekend at the beach but it rained. Which was such a pity because the place we went to was so nice and it kind of reminded me of Hout Bay.

So we stayed in a boat shaped hotel. The irony being a couple of months ago, we rode past it on a train from Donghae to Gangneun and I was laughing at how stupid it was. Don't judge a book by it's cover. I still think its weird having a boat shaped hotel.

Food glorious food

Food Revolution

I always thought sushi was raw fish and having always thought I liked my fish cooked, I didn't even consider sushi an option- until this week.

Firstly, sushi here is when the fish comes with rice and secondly, sushi seems a lot more cooked than what I had. We literally had a fish, straight form the ocean, cut and placed on a plate. It wasn't so bad actually, I even tried some sea snails, which I liked.

I figure that this is probably one reason why the Koreans are so thin, no fatty fish and chips (from Hout Bay) for them but with all the rice they eat, a lot is still unexplained.

Team Spirit

Teachers Retreat

We hiked for longer than 1.3km!

English Department

Wednesday, June 23rd.

Koreans apparently like to do things as a collective, all as a team. This month we, all the staff went on a hike, to a temple then dinner. (I'll upload pics later).
As we drove to this undisclosed (I don't remember the name) location, I was wondering about two things: 1. How far we were from the North Korean border, I really want to go see. 2. How beautiful Korea is, at least my area. I have the forests, farms and rivers that have really clear water! It's shockingly clear.

I don't know how true this is but, most of the forests in the northern part of Korea are still "new" because most were planted after the Korean War. Truth or not, the forests are amazing and I even considered the idea of going camping.

You won't believe what we had for dinner!

7 degrees of separation

7 degrees of separation

It's so weird how I ended up on the other side of the world. The side of the world where showing your shoulders is taboo but your skirt can be as short as you want.
We stayed in a dormitory for 8 people. I met 4 very different people.
1. A Chinese Argentinian with a Spanish accent
2. A Hawaiian coming back from 6 months in Shanghai
3. A Japanese man taking a 2 year tour of the world
4. A Scott man (?) who likes to sleep naked.

All these people ended up sleeping together on one random weekend in Seoul.

Seoul part 2

There's no place like Seoul.
