Mud festival 2011

Let's get dirty!

Went to the biggest foreign teachers (and American soldiers) annual get together, Boryeong Mud Festival 2011. It's in it's 14th year and it was reasonably fun.
Unfortunately, there were a lot of foreigners, kind of reminded me of Durban beach in December. The festival itself was just a small square with games which involved getting in some mud, I expected a lot more mud and less structure. Think back to the saturdays or public holidays you spent at Gold Reef City, the only thing I remember were those long queues and yesterday, I stood in one for an hour.

With more foreign teachers coming and the festival becoming so commercial, they either need a bigger venue in the future or think about making it a month long thing. Either way, the commercialisation of what was traditionally Koreans using the mud for their skin has lost it's traditional aspect and has just become a big party weekend.
